In the book of life, there are chapters that often remain hidden, unwritten stories that define who we are. Today, I’d like to share one such chapter from my own narrative, a chapter that might surprise those who know me well.
In my youth, I embarked on a journey that led me to an unexpected destination: the world of elder care. Most people may not know that I pursued a degree in a social science field with a specialization in elderly care. It’s a chapter of my life that is rarely unveiled, and I want to shed light on why it holds a special place in my heart.
During my time at college, I became deeply intrigued by the dynamics of aging, the challenges faced by the elderly, and the importance of providing compassionate care to this segment of the population. I dedicated myself to learning about gerontology, understanding the physical and psychological changes that occur as we age, and exploring the ways in which society can better support its senior citizens.
I graduated with a diploma in this field, but what followed was unexpected. Life took me on a different path, one that led me away from direct work in the realm of elder care. While I didn’t pursue a career in this field, the knowledge and empathy I gained during those years have had a lasting impact on me.
Elder care isn’t merely a subject I studied; it’s a perspective that informs my outlook on life. It instilled in me a deep respect for the elderly, a profound understanding of the challenges they face, and a commitment to fostering a society that values and supports its senior citizens.
This hidden chapter of my life serves as a reminder that our journeys are multifaceted, and the experiences we accumulate along the way shape our perspectives and values. So, while my path may have diverged from the world of elder care, the compassion and insights I gained during that time continue to resonate with me today, and I carry them with me in all that I do.
