Tell us about your first day at something — school, work, as a parent, etc.
My first day on the African continent unfolded with a mix of anticipation and confusion. Armed with instructions received via mail, I expected a straightforward rendezvous at Dakar Airport. A local guy holding a sign with my name – it seemed easy enough.
Reality, however, took a different turn. The airport echoed with a sea of black faces, each clutching a sign, none bearing my name. Undeterred, I planned to make a call, only to find my phone unwilling to connect to the local network at the ungodly hour of 2 AM.
Opting for patience, I decided to wait until the crowd dispersed, anticipating the emergence of my guide. Little did I know, he either forgot or overslept. After a grueling four-hour wait, he finally strolled in, nonchalant and ready to roll. In that moment, I wavered between irritation and relief. Such is the unpredictable charm of new beginnings.
Thank you for reading.
Have a nice day
